7 Benefits Of Yoga

During our stay in Punta Cana I wanted to take full advantage of the free options available on the resort. We stayed at Barceló Bavaro Beach – Adults only resort (all-Inclusive). Each day the resort offered free activities like Salsa lessons and Zumba. I was excited, to learn the resort offered Yoga on the beach. In my mind, Yoga is the perfect way to start the day.

The experience was wonderful! The resort provided the yoga mats and the country provided the scenery. It was great, we picked a quiet spot on the beach with a great view of the ocean. The sound of the waves were very relaxing, as we stretched out our limbs. The instructor was a beautiful Dominican woman. Her flexibility was remarkable. I was enthralled at the fact I was able to emulate her methods. I love yoga. It creates a peaceful environment. With every pose I closed my eyes and allowed my mind to be free. I focused 100% on my surroundings, and for that moment I let all my worries go.

Yoga is great for the body and mind. The older I get the more fascinated I am with living a healthier lifestyle. I want to be that 60yr old women still running marathons in a fresh pair of new balances. I understand in order to accomplish such goals, I must take care of my body. I was first introduce to Yoga through P90X Extreme Home Fitness. Believe it or not, it was the hardest routine out of the 12 disk package. Twisting & turning your body, this way and that way is not as easy as it appears. Just as with anything else, the more you practice the better you’ll get. I haven’t master Yoga completely yet, I’m still finding my way. I am currently in the process of getting my body in great shape, and I plan to add Yoga to my morning routine.

Smile, Because You Can….

My daughter Kennedi took school pictures this week. As I watch her practice her award-winning smile, I got to thinking; A smile is a powerful tool. It is a warm presence that can make a person’s day! Smile.

Can you recall a memory when a smile changed your day?

I know I can. On days when my world seems upside down, my children’s smiles always put things back into perspective for me. I love their innocence. They say the silliest things with the straightest faces.

Bad days will occur in life. That’s just the way it is. However, you have the power to control how you deal with bad days. The saying: “Stop crying over yesterday and start smiling for tomorrow” makes so much sense to be now that I am an adult. There is always a reason to smile; you just have to find it. In life, we must count each blessing we’re given. The fact that you are reading my blog right now is a reason to smile. It means you woke up today, and you’re alive and breathing! You’ve been given another chance to be great in this world.

Fun Fact: Did you know smiling can be contagious

It can promote assurance and happiness. Have you ever saw a picture of a smiling baby or a happy elderly couple and couldn’t help yourself but to smile?

Taking the time to stop and smile at someone could change their views of this world. I’ve been guilty of prejudging people, thinking they wouldn’t dare smile or speak to me. Then it happens, they surprise me and do the complete opposite. At that point, I’m utterly ashamed and shocked. I’ve learned you cannot judge a book by its cover. It is important to start each day with an open mind and a kind heart.

Disclosure: You will run into people who simply will not smile back after you’ve smiled at them. When this happens, just remember: “Better to be the one who smiled, than the one who didn’t smile back!”

We must be the change, we want in this world! Be the reason someone smiles today!
